Hi,
My Raspberry Pi 2 is sitting on my bedroom. The strange thing is when someone switches our kitchen's light on/off the display of
the Pi goes black for a second and comes back on.
Can anyone explain what's happening here ?
Re: Interference affecting RPi display
Any ideas ?
Re: Interference affecting RPi display
First off you need to give people a chance to see you post, as this is a peer to peer forum.
from the little information you have supplied not much anyone can say .
is it just the display turning off or the pi rebooting ?
in general if switching a light on in your house affects other electrical devices you might wan to get your house electrical wiring checked.

Re: Interference affecting RPi display
My hunch is either some sort of radiated interference, or a problem with your house wiring. If any more information is needed
Where is your bedroom relative to the kitchen? Above it, or at least in the same part of the building? Can you, at least temporarily, move the RPi to be as far as possible from the kitchen? Any change in behaviour?
What sort of light fitting does the kitchen have? Is it the sort of straight fluorescent tube that has a 'starter'? That might be 'noisy' in terms of electromagnetic radiation.
Is this the same RPi as the one you were running on an inadequate power supply?
Re: Interference affecting RPi display
My bedroom is one room away meaning there is another room in between my bedroom and our kitchen.
I have already tried moving the Pi to another bedroom and connected it to a LED TV. Same thing happened there too.
Yes our kitchen has a straight fluorescent tube with a starter.
Yes its the Pi with a weak power supply.

It seems like you have just answered your own question. Get a better PSU. Preferably the official RPF power supply.
I'll go out on a limb here and also guess that you aren't using a good surge protector. Get one of those as well (one with line filtering - I like the Tripp Lite brand myself, particularly the Super7).
My mind is like a browser. 27 tabs are open, 9 aren't responding,
lots of pop-ups...and where is that annoying music coming from?

You haven't put your location in your forum profile, but does that mean you want the power supply delivered to an address in India?I will get a new power supply but cant get the official one coz

Because from https://www.raspberrypi.org/ I can select Buy a Raspberry PI (https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/) and scroll down to the official Power Supply and click on Buy Now. https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/#buy-now-modal Select your Country = India and there is a supplier apparently available -

Re: Interference affecting RPi display
Okay I will buy one soon. Thanks a lot.
Re: Interference affecting RPi display
The idea from @hawaiianpi to use a surge protector is also worth considering if you are accepting the idea that the problem is being carried via the mains cabling.
The other possibility is that there is electromagnetic ( air-borne/wireless ) radiation from the switch or starter.
Re: Interference affecting RPi display
Yes I am going to buy a surge protector too.

Re: Interference affecting RPi display
This thread reminded me of an old touch switch nightstand lamp that would turn on/off by itself whenever the air conditioner cycled.
While most people would not think a lamp needs one, connecting it to a surge protector exercised the demons from the haunted lamp.
