Usb soundcard

As most of us know that the audio output on the pi is only about 775 millivolts which is right for using headphones but what if you needed a higher voltage output possibly around 1.5 volts or higher which is the spec of most CD players etc use
So on that note is there a recommended usb soundcard for output not input for the raspberry pi

I believe you can buy any usb audio card, pick the cheapest from ebay. These cost a buck and a bit. The quality of the Pi's audio output is not that great from what I've heared, so a usb audio card is a good idea.

If you want to drive speakers, you still need to use an amplifier

I would give it a try fist.

I was very impressed with the audio output of the 3b+. Very low noise, its good enough for my stereo.

Make sure to raise the volume in the pi to max. Default ist 50%

I have a 3b and the volume is set to 100 in the audio settings

The OP has not said that he is using any form of a display. As far as I can tell he is simply making a headless audio player. And to get an hdmi audio extractor is like 20x more expensive than a usb soundcard.... especially if no no hdmi display is used

true, though you can get hdmi audio extractors for £7ish
spi audio for £2
usb for £1 ish
quality / size / etc....

I made a Pi Musicbox player using a Zero and a WD Labs Node Zero hard drive. It has a USB sound card with phono out put which connects to my home cinema amplifier. It works well, the sound card is Ugreen and came from Amazon.

Now I'm wondering if I could have used the HDMI socket to get audio. The player is headless, controlled either from my laptop or tablet so I'm not using the HDMI socket.
