Using TL-WN821N as AP

Tue Jan 16, 2018 7:33 pm

I have a TP-LINK TL-WN821N V5 on Raspberry pi 2 with Raspbian Jessie.
I used the information from the link below to make to install the driver and make it work.

Is it possible to use the wifi dongle to create an access point?
I have tried many guides but nothing seems to be working for me.

Yes, I'm sure it can be used to make an AP. I created a router sometime ago and it originally used an Edimax EW-7811Un but today I changed the wifi to use a TP-Link TL-WN822N V4 which uses the same driver as the TP-LINK TL-WN821N V5 and it works OK as far as I can tell.

I was testing the 8192eu driver to see if it can be used for an AP to try and help someone else with a similar problem. viewtopic.php?f=66&t=148389&e=1&view=unread#p1259408

It was quite a while ago when I created the SD card so I'm not sure which tutorial I used to make the card originally but I think it was this onehttp://daveconroy.com/using-your-raspbe ... eb-server/

I made no changes to the original SD card except to install the 8192eu wifi driver.

Set up a new SD card with an AP using the 8192eu driver without any problems using the info here https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... s-point.md

I created a new SD card using the latest Stretch image 2017-11-29-raspbian-stretch-lite. Copied a version of files wpa_supplicant.conf and ssh to enable wifi and ssh and plugged in a EW-7811Un wifi using the 8192cu driver and booted the Pi. I then installed my script and installed the 8192eu driver.

Shut down the Pi and changed the wifi module to the TP-Link TL-WN822N using the 8192eu driver and rebooted the Pi. Then ran through the tutorial on setting up the AP and all worked OK.
