Backup up pi Sd

Hi I got a raspberry pi with 64gb Sd card, but actual used size is around 8gb. However when I back it up using image reader software, it's comes up to 64gb.

Is there is a way to creating a backed up image file with much less size. I want to move the os from 64 to 32 gb card.

The standard answer to this question is: piclone

This is a GUI program that can be invoked either from the Terminal command line (as piclone) or via:

Menu -> Accessories -> SD Card Copier

It can be used on a "live" system - you can backup from the running system (on /dev/mmcblk0p?) to a fresh card in the USB card reader (/dev/sda)

What he said. Piclone makes a file based copy. It is different from dd which makes byte for byte copy.
