Missing something - Kodi issues

Fri Nov 24, 2017 2:42 pm

I have tried 4 times installing kodi on 2 different cards. I put them in my pi and they won't play anything. It g goes through the steps of loading a movie. When it gets to 100% the screen goes black then returns to the desk top screen.
It's got to be something I'm missing. It's done it 4 times with fresh installs of everything and i formatted the card each time.
Please offer some advice, I'm a newbie and got really excite the first time when I thought I did it the cu first time.
Thanks

try to run kodi in a terminal window.
1. open lxterminal or similar
2. type kodi
3. wait for it to crash
4. copy the error log from the lxterminal and post it here

It would be helpful to know how you installed Kodi Multimedia Software, there are various methods, see:

Have you tried LibreElec Operating system? (Just enough OS for Kodi it boasts).

You can now download an exe file for the PC that will load and configure it before you transfer the card to the Pi, there are also versions that come with Kodi included so you get a full install ready to go.. I just did this last week.

After years of frting around with things not loading, not working, just not doing the right things, in half an hour, I had a complete working setup with Kodi 17.6Krypton.. Dead impressed, you bet I am.

And the Pi itself has been my best working item for Kodi too.

Only one grumble.. the Estuary (default) skin has issues with using a mouse, lists tend to run away.. Kodi's response is to 'use a remote' (no offer to fix the issue).

Seems like you're missing some kodi dependency related libraries. have you check 'dmesg' or check system log ?

If you only want install kodi or turn your pi to a media box, just grab a fresh ISO copy of LibreElec or OpenElec ( or get it from NOOBS is probably the easiest way to do so )

I've got my first raspberry pi model A ! installed with NOOBS. still doing great untill now. been 6 years. very durable I must say !

Sound like you are missing a codec required to play the file.
