Can I log data 24/7 and also run 2 network drives

Sat Nov 18, 2017 1:33 pm

First of all I am completely new to Raspberry Pi and Linux ....
I just have a couple of questions before I buy a Pi

Pi will be running 24/7 .
firstly I want to convert serial data consisting of only 5 integers every 5 seconds to Ethernet packets and send them out on the LAN.

Secondly I also want to use the Pi to have a couple of Hard drives attached as Network drives.

and Maybe also use the pi for streaming media to my TV.
Is the Pi 3 powerful enough to do all this please?

I'd appreciate your advice

Thanks

regarding the usage of hdds are all answered before please try to use search engine. my pi is running a usb hdd 2.5" but thevpi may not handle another hdd since it eats current unless you have a good PSU that outputs more current than the official PSU of 3A

yes, ssd's no problem 2.5" drives probably ok , 3.5" drives you'll probably need a powered hub
YMMV depends

Thanks to you both for your help.
I have a couple of small ssd's and if I want to use normal drives
I could use an old powered caddy that I have in the back of my cupboard then.
Great! :)

Thanks again.
