I've been trying to setup a kiosk. There were actually a few images created for this purpose (FullPageOS, Raspberry Digital Signage, Concerto, 1080Dots, KWeb, ...).
I really liked screenly.io (web UI is really slick), but the webbrowser performance was poor, compared to the stock Raspbian. So I ended up running a standard Raspbian PIXEL and just edited autostart like below:
Of course SSH is easy to setup but an advantage here is that when you're a Linux newbie, you can simply close the browser window and then you're at the desktop GUI.
Code: Select all
# autostart file in ~./.config/lxsession/LXDE-pi/ @lxpanel --profile LXDE-pi @pcmanfm --desktop --profile LXDE-pi #@xscreensaver -no-splash #@point-rpi @xset s off #no screensaver @xset -dpms #no energy saving @xset s noblank @unclutter -idle 0.1 -root @sed -i 's/"exited_cleanly":false/"exited_cleanly": true/' ~/.config/chromium/Default/Preferences @chromium-browser --incognito --noerrdialogs --disable-translate --kiosk www.website.url
Have you tried any ready-to-go kiosk distros or what solution are you using?
