Picademy Ireland?

Tue Aug 09, 2016 5:27 pm

Hi all,

I have recently started running a class in my local community center teaching the kids scratch.
I have built 10 small work stations each powered by a Pi3 and the kids love it however i feel in myself that i dont have the skill to teach much more than scratch!
So my question is that seeing as Googles European head office is in Dublin is there any plans to have Picademy run in Dublin?
I know that there are a lot of people that would jump at the chance to become certified!

Thanks in advance!

Hi Bez,

We often get asked about when Picademy is coming to different parts of the world and we're constantly looking for ways to reach more teachers. You can find answers to you questions here https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/picade ... -answered/

The short answer however is no, we don’t currently have plans to launch Picademy in other parts of the world. We’d love to, but we just don’t have the capacity. We are brainstorming ideas for how the Foundation can better support educators globally and as those ideas develop, we’ll be looking for your input to help shape them.

Thanks

James

Hi Bez,

i'm interested in starting something similar, i'm just starting off with the lessons on raspberrypi.org but will be attending the piacademy in Glasgow on the start of November. Happy to pass on any knowledge and experience and network with you. I'm in Kildare.

Hi Bez,
I attended the Picademy in Glasgow (Oct) and am hosting a 'Creative Computing with the Raspberry Pi' meetup at our next CAS NI meeting in Belfast. You would be most welcome if you are able to attend. Details here: http://community.computingatschool.org.uk/events/4729

And to add, in case you fancy a drive up north, we do have monthly Raspberry Jams up in Belfast, taking place on the 2nd Saturday each month.
We have had plenty of teachers come along over the past few years and although isn't as directly targeted as Picademy towards teachers, is still plenty of ideas and activities that can be easily ported over to the classroom.
