Hello!

I'm very excited to be attending the Picademy in Mountain View. I'm a grade 6-8 computer teacher at a private school in Jacksonville, Florida. I was a software programmer for 12 years and have been a teacher for the last 12. Last summer I ran a two-week Build-and-Keep-Your-Own Pi camp at my school and it was so popular I had to turn kids away. Hoping to do it again this summer. I've used the Pi in my classroom for the kids who are really into but I'd like to find projects and lessons I can do with all of my classes. I teach classes in programming game design, web design, and robotics so I'm especially interested in using the Pi for those areas.

Anyone else from Florida attending? Maybe I'll be the very first Raspberry Pi Certified Educator in the state!

Looking forward to meeting you, Mark. You're the only one from this cohort coming from Florida and I don't believe we have any Raspberry Pi Certified Educators there yet (though I could be wrong). I do know of a few community members and Raspberry Pi enthusiasts in Central Florida and Miami, however.

Hey!

Just wanted to post in here to give a general hello and express my excitement over next weekend. I look forward to meeting all of you!

As for a little background, I'm a high school English teacher in Hazlet, New Jersey. I currently teach AP Literature and Junior Honors British Literature. For the past year or so, we've been using the Pi in most of our major unit projects. So, I'm very ready to bounce ideas around and see how others are planning (or have) used these in the classroom.

Safe travels!

Saturday 2/27

6?-8pm Makerspace Meetup

The Pi Academy Cohort is invited to stop by Sam Patterson's Makerspace at Gideon Hauser Jewish Day School (directions will be available during the day on Sunday)
Remodeled last summer, this 2 room space hosts a giant roll down green screen, puppet making, pi computing, 3d printing and some fun consumer-level robots and drones.

Due to campus dietary restrictions, there will not be food at this event. There are many opportunities to check out the equipment and connect with this awesome cohort.

Any who are interested are also invited to participate in a podcast recording (or 2).

Any chance/plans for such event to be held in the Chicago area, in the near future. The 'central' location makes it within easy reach for many parts of the country.

No firm plans, but we hope to be spreading Picademy across the US in the coming months. Chicago would make a great location. Be sure to sign up for updates here.

If anyone needs a ride, I'm arriving to SJC around 3:15, and I rented a car. I can help shuttle people to and from the museum. I added my info to the Google doc Lucie started, but fastest way to reach me is probably through Twitter - @sherder23

Looking forward to the weekend!

I plan to uber back and forth unless someone lives in the area and can pick or drop me off. Also I teach Science in Arcadia, CA and we just started our weekly Hack the Pi series, where students basically get to create various projects using python etc.
I booked a car with my flight and got it for $60 total. My wife and I will be staying at a hotel in Mountain view, not sure how far from the venue. I teach Photography in Pasadena, CA.

Hi! I am a teacher from Hershey, Pa, and I am SOOOO excited about this weekend! I feel like a kid waiting for her first trip to Disney World! :D I was a 7th grade English teacher for 17 years and made the jump to middle school gifted education just last year. My district gives me a lot of freedom with my program, and this year I have started to incorporate as much technology as possible. I am really looking forward to learning many different ways to use the Raspberry Pi with my students as well as the ways it can be used in other content area classrooms so that I can provide guidance and encouragement for my colleagues to incorporate Raspberry Pi's into their teaching, too.

Just received the email yesterday afternoon that I was selected to attend Picademy Mountain View in February. I can't explain how excited I am. I teach IT Hardware at a high school in Wichita KS and to be honest, I am a total NOOB! I look forward to working with everyone.
I'm a total noob, too, so you won't be alone! :)

Looking forward to meeting everyone there.

I'm a noob, too! And in a few days we will all be certified!! Wahoo!! :D

Hey folks!

I'm Blair. I'm a technology specialist for KIPP DC in our nation's capital! I've been teaching for 4 years. I'm really passionate about the intersections of personalized learning, logistics and operations. Next year I hope to be entering a role leading the personalized learning experience for a school. Really looking forward to meeting you all!

I am staying a few miles from the museum (at the Hotel Avante), and plan to walk on SAT and SUN (it's SO nice in Cali compared to DC this time of year). But if anyone is coming from the airport on FRI around 2 p.m., let me know! I'm happy to split a Lyft or whatevs.

My Twitter handle is @blairtheblur, my email is [email protected] and my cell number is 608.931.9522.

Also, I am definitely a n00b! So glad to see a few other folks. :)

Really looking forward to this weekend and meeting everyone! I'm a librarian at Moreau Catholic High School in Hayward, CA. We use a Raspberry Pi as our catalog station running Raspbian and have them available for our students to use in our Maker Lab https://sites.google.com/a/moreaucathol ... maker-lab/. On my own, I've been working on making a tablet running Rasbian using the new 7in display that came out and 3D designing/printing a case for it. Hoping this class will help me find new ways to engage our students in using the Raspberry Pi.

I will be commuting from the East Bay each day (Dublin, Pleasanton, Livermore area)...not sure if anyone else is, but I'd be happy to carpool. Send me an email ([email protected]).

Hello all! I am library media specialist at 5th/6th grade Intermediate School in Franklin, Tennessee. I am currently working on implementing a Makerspace next to the library. While doing research about Makerspace, I learned about the Raspberry Pi! I have been learning as I go, and am excited to learn with a group of folks on how to best implement the Pi into schools! See you soon!

Hi all, I’m excited to officially meet everyone this weekend (and to escape the snowy cold of Chicago ;) )!

I am the program coordinator for a K-8 gifted program at Northwestern University and an elementary classroom teacher. I’m passionate about using the Pi across elementary grade levels/content areas, and in bringing girls into the tech world.

I’ve created two Raspberry Pi courses that others have taught for my program, but am a noob in terms of my own working knowledge (I have a Pi at home I’ve begun tinkering with). I’m looking forward to not only boosting my RasPi skills but also exploring curriculum & strategies I can bring back to share with my teaching staff. See you soon!

Hello!
I am SO, SO, SO excited for this weekend! I am at work today and having one heck of a time staying focused. I'm ready to get home, finish packing, and head out! I'm traveling from New Jersey, and my plane leaves PHL at 6:45 tomorrow morning. I land at San Jose airport at around noon. (Trying to decide if I grab a nap, go exploring at Google or try to see the Golden Gate before our meet & greet. I have never been to the area at all.)
I'm an elementary school computer teacher and am very much a newbie with Raspberry Pi, but I'm ready & so eager to learn! I can't wait to meet all of you for this extraordinary weekend at Picademy USA! Safe travels to all of you!

Hey Everyone!!!

Super excited about meeting everyone and getting a chance to spend some time learning more about the Raspberry Pi. I am currently a middle school computer teacher in Las Vegas! We just finished a unit on Sonic Pi in my class and the students loved it. They made some amazing beats.

See you all tomorrow or Saturday!!
