Available and low cost Wireless+Bt chips compatible with Raspbian?

Thu Mar 01, 2018 9:10 pm

I have searched the internet and forums and it seems like every time I find a wireless chip that I can use for a CM3 Lite board design, it's impossible to find in small quantities, or it's impossible to find in large quantities, or it's crazy expensive.

I would love to see what chips are out there that people are using to add wireless to their CM3 Lite-based projects.

I have looked at the ESP-WROOM-32 as an option, but the chips are huge. Much thicker than one of my projects demands.

I'm a novice, so any help is appreciated. I haven't dug into it yet, but I figured it stands to reason that if people are using the ESP-WROOM-32 successfully, that I could be able to use this ESP32-D0WD chip and an antenna on the board edge like the Raspberry Pi 3 uses?

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Have you checked the TI WiLink8?

This RPi board available off-the-shelf from Gumstix seems to be using it https://store.gumstix.com/chatterbox-pi.html
