Raspberry Pi Compute Module 3 … Super-Computer

Fri Jan 12, 2018 10:15 am

Hello,

1. Has anyone experience to use multiple "Module 3" in parallel… i mean… to assemble multiple "Module 3" into a Super-Computer ?
2. It is possible to create "Custom-Module 3" by stripping not wanted parts out of the "Module 3" ?
3. It is possible to create a Board like "Breakout-Board" able to hold hundreds of "Module 3" ?

thanks for answer

The stumbling block in thought experiments like this is always the interconnect. Supercomputers need high-speed links between the nodes, and BCM2837 doesn't give you many options - and none of them really fit the bill of any-to-any links and high performance. You could perhaps theoretically use CSI/DSI with a backplane that operates as a switch (I'm a software engineer dreaming - this may not be feasible), or just fall back to USB with Ethernet, which would need lots of LAN9514s (or similar) and a central LAN switch.
