Hi,

You have a point. My apologies for not having provided you with all the info you needed.

I must admit that support here is incredibly fast and useful.

So, having said that, I'll try to explain in more detail.

I use the CM as a multispectral camera with 2 camera boards, one a normal RGB, the other a PiNoir with a NIR filter(849mn).

Both cameras are usually trigger simultaneously using the following script:

#!/bin/bash
# To take timelapse photos
USER=picam
Path=/mnt/usbstorage
mkdir -p $Path

while [ true ]; do
filename=$(date -u +’%Y%m%d%H%M%S’).tiff
echo Shooting $filename;
raspistill -cs 0 --mode 2 --quality 100 --ISO 100 --sharpness 100 --awb cloud --exposure sports –o $Path/NIR$filename &
raspistill -cs 1 --mode 2 --quality 100 --ISO 100 --sharpness 100 --awb cloud --exposure sports –o $Path/RGB$filename
echo Done, preparing next shot;
# sleep for 6 seconds
sleep 6
done

This works well with the old camera modules, but not with the new ones.

I hope that this helps you to understand better my issue.

Thank you - clear now and hopefully for any other readers. I'll try reproducing tonight.

CM1. Currently a Wheezy install, but did rpi-update to grab latest firmware and kernel.

Code: Select all

raspistill -cs 0 -p 0,0,800,600 -t 30000 -o cs0.jpg &
raspistill -cs 1 -p 800,0,800,600 -t 30000 -o cs1.jpg
Runs fine if you run the two commands sequentially from the command line.

Put them in a script with no pause at all between them, and it fails.
Enabling asserts on the GPU code shows me that it fails to open one of the drivers, although neither window appears to come up. I have a pretty good idea over what's happening, so I'll have a play.

Hopefully now you can see why I need as many details on your use case as possible - it's a very specific set of circumstances that have to all be in place to result in this failure.

Hi,

Any advancements in the problem with the new camera modules?

Still working on it. I've got the camera driver just about fixed, but still not got to the bottom of the memory problem (running without saving the file is enough to get it to work). Other issues were a higher priority for the last couple of days.

I think I've got this resolved. Patches have just been passed to Pi Towers for release.
The only thing I haven't tested is mixing a V1 and V2 camera on the same system.

BTW One of the bugs affects both V1 and V2 cameras, so there was a race condition on your old system when starting both sensors simultaneously. That's been fixed too.

Great!

That sounds exciting. Do you have a rough estimate of when the patch will be released?

Normally within a day or so. Watch https://github.com/Hexxeh/rpi-firmware/commits/master for new commits (grab with "sudo rpi-update"), and there's generally a scraped post on https://twitter.com/rpf_dev_updates/ to match.

https://github.com/Hexxeh/rpi-firmware/ ... 11fb0259e0
firmware: Tuner: Disable unused ACLS tuner, and improve logging
firmware: imx219: Remove static variable
firmware: ISP Tuners: Make DPF parsing thread safe
Those should hopefully resolve your issues with 2 v2 cameras being started simultaneously.
"sudo rpi-update" to get that update.

Glad to hear it, and sorry it took a little longer than intended.

I had noted on viewtopic.php?f=43&t=145815#p960789
Sorry, one of each works individually, but currently runs out of memory if you try to use them simultaneously. There may be a case for tweaking some numbers.
I'll revisit that now as it should be more sensible on memory usage.

If you're using the compute module with the v2 camera and jessie lite (that's what this topic is about): read the full topic.

If not: start a new topic and give more information of your setup (model Pi, OS, camera version)
Also, what you have tried to get it working, etc.

Found the error! (Hopefully!)

Wed Jul 13, 2016 4:02 pm

I found out what was wrong... It is very hidden.
On the pi camera there is a ribbon cable connected to a microchip of some sort and I fixed it by pressing it down somehow. Hope this works for you! :)

Troubleshooting
...
Is the camera module connector, between the smaller black camera module itself and the camera PCB, firmly attached? Sometimes this connection can come loose during transit or when putting the camera module in a case. Using a fingernail, flip up the connector on the PCB, then reconnect it with gentle pressure. It engages with a very slight click. Don't force it; if it doesn't engage, it's probably slightly misaligned.

I know this is an old thread, but I was having a similar problem and thought I'd offer the solution I found

Hardware: Rasp pi 3
Camera: Arducam OV5647

In /boot.config.txt, I had the boot config eeprom turned on

Code: Select all

# this allows us to use i2c-0 to read and write to config eeprom
dtparam=i2c_vc=on
By disabling this param, the camera started working i.e.

Code: Select all

# this allows us to use i2c-0 to read and write to config eeprom
#dtparam=i2c_vc=on
I guess there must be some sort of hardware conflict.

Cheers
Mike

i2c_vc is i2c0, the same one that is used to talk to the camera, display, and hats. Hats are on different gpios to the camera and display, so you enabling the hat pins makes it doubly mapped when the Gpu tries to talk to the camera, and that fails. This has been documented many times.

You should definetly check the camera connection to the RPI board. I first thought that my cheap camera bought from eBay has a firmware issue, but when I looked closely, the FPC cable's contacts were on the wrong side. It's very easy to put a FPC cable in the wrong position.

I appreciate you wanting to help, but you should definitely check the age of the thread before posting. Your replay was to a thread where the last post was almost three years ago, which some folks around these forums would call "necromancy".
