Tkinter won't run without a desktop environment (other GUI frameworks will work)

You're going to have to install the bare minimum required to get a basic desktop environment but without the additional clutter that comes with full raspbian.

This one suggests a lighter weight approach https://jp.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewt ... p?t=152264

Hi, trying to to re-post. I was hoping I could just install Stretch Lite and still create some GUI for a touchscreen.

Is this just not possible on S-L ?

Could kivy work/install on top of just Rasp S-L ? Mybe not the best place to ask, but doing it anyways.

Thanks for any ideas,

John

Raspbian Stretch with Desktop has a minimal image available which has very little optional software:

The default Raspbian release is now a minimal install — it gives you the desktop, the Chromium browser, the VLC media player, Python, and some accessory programs.
