Kernel Crash with GSM Modem AND I2C-0 Enabled

We are using the Raspberry Compute Modules 1 & 3

Linux Version
Linux DINgo 4.9.41-v7+ #1023 SMP Tue Aug 8 16:00:15 BST 2017 armv7l GNU/Linux

We only see the following problem with Compute Module 3 and NOT Compute Module 1

The USB Architecture is as follows:-

The Raspberry PI USB is connected to a GL852G - 4 port Multi TT USB Hub

Port 1 of the GL852G connects to a LAN9512 - Ethernet Controller and External USB Ports 1 & 2
Port 2 of the GL852G connects to a CP2108 - Quad USB to Serial Converter - ttyUSB0 - ttyUSB3
Port 3 of the GL852G connects to an internal USB Port 1 (various USB peripherals)
Port 4 of the GL852G connects to an internal USB Port 2 (various USB peripherals)

The kernel crash occurs when an GSM Modem (tty_ACM0 - ACM6) is connected to the internal USB Port AND I2C-0 is enabled (All function when GSM Modem is connected to External USB Ports) .

In config.txt - #dtparam=i2c_vc=on Therefore I2C-0 is disabled

I understand that this is a long post but I wanted to ensure that all the information regarding this USB / I2C-0 kernel

Just to summarize :-

1. This problem does not appear on the Raspberry PI Compute Module 1
2. The problem only appears on the Raspberry PI Compute Module 3 when :-

a) GSM Modules is connected to Internal USB - (via GL852G Port)
AND
b) I2C-0 is Enabled

I should have mentioned that we are using a 5V @5A PSU. Very low noise observed on oscilloscope

I would suggest you debug the kernel using serial debug (kgdb) then add kgdbwait and kdbgoc to the cmdline. Then you should be able to debug the kernel when the error occurs and find out what went wrong...

Since it's related to both USB and I2C I'd assume there was some interaction between them, but nothing springs to mind immediately
