Build and upload firmware to GertDuino with PlatformIO

Mon Aug 11, 2014 1:24 pm

Hi,

I want to propose another way to build Arduino-based source code and upload it to GertDuino with PlatformIO. You don't need install Arduino IDE or play with makefiles. Just type one command and you source code will be built and uploaded to your device.

Currently, PlatformIO has support for Arduino-similar boards, Microduino and Raspduino (inside atmelavr platform). I want to add support for GertDuino and I would be grateful, if someone can help me with testing GertDuino + PlatformIO.

I've just read a lot of posts which are linked with GertDuino, and I understand, that there are two ways to upload firmware:
  • Over SPI (arvdude "gpio" hook)
  • Over UART
The UART is preferable. As I understand, there are a few problems with hardware UART-> Serial port by default. One of them is fixing "ttyAMA0" device in the system. Also, is GertDuino pre-flashed with Arduino's boot loader by default?

Tell me please, which way for uploading is "workable" from the "box" without modification with the system files?

Thanks a lot!

P.S: I don't have Raspberry Pi & GertDuino :(

No, it is not.
