Raspberry Pi Case @ £2.98 DELIVERED. design by Adafruit

Wed Jan 09, 2013 3:06 am

A link to the great deal:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pi-Box-Case-B ... 0875366%26

No that is not a miss print. The price is £2.98 including Shipping.

From Ebay Seller:
Pi Box - Case for Raspberry Pi Computers

*****Special limited discount price*****
The case is advertised at $14.95 (£9.35) on Adafruit’s website
Please do not confuse this product with cheap imitations – this is the real thing!

PiWorks is now officially licensed by Adafruit to manufacture Pi Boxes to this design.
It would defeat the purpose of case that cost more than half the price of a your valued Pi. I plan on seeing if I can make a Pi with all the peripherals at the cheapest price point! I found this deal and wanted to share since the Pi has encouraged openess and enjoyment to share together. The Pi revolution.

I've done my research and here is a Liste reasons why this is match made in heaven for anyone lusting for a case but held back.

- This is one of the sleekest and simplest you can buy. Fully transparent so you can transform your Pi not just as a powerful device but an object of beauty which can be placed as an art object to be digested for personal viewing pleasure.
- UK based seller which has sold to date 1134 of this particular case and in total 2567 cases with a positive feedback of 99.7%
- They have also added a slot so that you can connect a 26-pin IDC cable to the GPIO breakout pins on the Pi and pass it though the case.
For more advanced hacking, the enclosure is designed so that you can remove
the top piece and plug any sort of cables you wish into the breakouts in the middle.

I also found a YouTube video showing you step by step on assembling your new case once it arrives

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... udYAOVRY#!

I think this is perfect and should be the number one case for raspberry pi its gorgeous elegant hackable it doesn't take anything away from the Pi but adds to it. I hope you all enjoy this.

One thing thats puzzling me, is if its a "open source design"
Adafruit invests time and resources providing this open source design,
please support Adafruit and open-source hardware
by purchasing products from Adafruit!
Why does PiWorks need to license it ?
PiWorks is now officially licensed by Adafruit to manufacture Pi Boxes to this design.

Yes, it is open-source. Meaning that if I want to start cutting my own cases, I can. (it's not a complex design. Anyone could reverse engineer it)

The licensing agreement allows PiWorks to brag that they working with Adafruit, and let everyone know that they are building these cases to Ada's specs. Not saying that there is, but the license might also have them producing these *for* Adafruit.

It also protects Adafruit. If I were to start cutting my own cases using substandard materials, someone could come back and sue me and Adafruit if their equipment were damaged. Without the license, I'm on my own. With the license, Adafruit is protected if I violate the license and not build to spec.
I'm only wearing black until they find something darker.

Be warned, those springy clips that are used to 'snap' the ends in place are prone to snap right off. If any of the four clips breaks, the case is dead, so be very gentle with them - especially when dismantling for any reason.

I do not see, Adafruit doing the same "licensing agreement" with Arduino, when they copy them  .
Also brag, if it was say "SparkFun" then you can brag.

What do you think about a new Co, that takes OPEN HARDWARE designs and sell them at cost, just for the hippie love of the community.

...so you've pulled off the protective coating and it's also blue underneath?

I paid £6 for mine, I'd rather have paid £3 and not given a rats about the colour. So long as it stops it shorting out, who cares !

Got mine now - it works a charm - I am using it without the top panel so I can access connectors. I am using a proto plate expansion type prototyping board and that fits in too (just) - no rattling.

The plastic was blue without protective film on and was a bit scuffed but I dont care. I'm not sure if its acrylic as it does not seem as hard and shiney.

No rubber bands needed with mine.

Jesus christ you guys, just scrape it off already! pick away at one corner with your thumbnail - it's not that difficult :P

Be careful when you're disassembling it, though - you don't want to snap those tabs off, and it'll probably be a little bit tighter than it should be, considering it still has the blue, scuff-absorbing, softer-than-acrylic, slightly foggy protective film on!

Or I suppose you could leave it like that if you really want to. Some people do that, you know.

Hehe - the film is very tight and thinner than other acrylic - it fooled me too for a while:

(it's on both sides)

Personally I leave it on, as it matches the blue micro servos I use.

oh crap - now I've got to take it all apart and peel it all off.

Maybe I'll leave it on - I like blue anyway.

I designed the box with swing top.
And yes, many people forget to remove the protective film and sometimes the pieces are too tight.
