A Raspberry Pi2b + Decent Monitor for 85€ or...

Hello all, just bought a used 2B which was advertised as a 3B! It comes with a decent monitor and everything seems to work nicely. Now the seller is offering me either a (presumably Pi2) extra or 20€ back. It could be a Pi3 though, he is unsure.

Is this value for money? Only now starting to dip into the Pi world and I kind of feel let down but excited at the same time though. Although I have no use yet for the extra Pi.

Your thoughts please.

It's not difficult to boot plain Raspbian on the machine and ask it what flavour it is.

Open a command line terminal and run
cat /sys/firmware/devicetree/base/model

A 2B replies with

Code: Select all

[email protected]:~ $ cat /sys/firmware/devicetree/base/model
Raspberry Pi 2 Model B Rev [email protected]:~ $

Then take your €20 and run away quickly.

Looking at my Pis, the clue appears to be the silkscreen - my Pi 2B has "Raspberry Pi 2 Model B V1.1" written on it, while the 3B has "Raspberry Pi 3 Model B V1.2"
