What do you guys think of this idea?

Sun Oct 08, 2017 2:39 am

First, do you have to have some type of special permissions from the Raspberry Pi Foundation to sell products that contain a Raspberry Pi? Anyway...
  • Pi Computer: Comes with Raspberry Pi 3, 20 Ah battery pack, keyboard, 5 MP camera, and 7 inch screen at 1024*600. Runs Ubuntu Mate with 64 GB. ($150, 145 for no camera, 175 with dual speakers)
  • Tablet: Basically the laptop, but no speakers, keyboard, and a 16 GB SD card. Runs Android or Firefox OS. ($140)
  • Phone: Same battery, but the computer is the 2G IOT Orange Pi, the screen is 3.5 inches, and the SD card is 16 GB. Runs Android or Firefox OS.
I call it the "Pi For Lunch" line of products. Note: THESE ARE NOT FINISHED ITEMS AND ARE CURRENTLY NOT FOR SALE.

Please give me your immediate feedback and thoughts.

you have not investigated this have you?
A PI will NOT run a full version of android (a version which uses the GPU to accelerate things to a bearable speed)! See the locked Android section of this forum, and notice that only Android Things is officially supported (and it is an OS for Internet Of Things).
A quick trip to Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raspberry_Pi) would have taught you that.
Also neither is Firefox OS supported, (with hardware acceleration) you will find almost no trace of it in this forum, as its still in development, but this development seems to have stopped before the arrival of the PI3 is seems, here is a bit of older info https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U467HSjuFOs.

Also, most of the things you propose have already been done (but with Raspbian as the OS).

1. If Android and Firefox don't work as Operating Systems, what do you propose would work as a good tablet OS?

2. I just proposed these items because, as I have heard some people complain about, a lot of these projects are either DIY tutorials or are expensive. I just wanted to show a for sale IDEA to this form and get feedback.

3. Even though these have been done, I believed these had incredible specs for the price, like a pi laptop with a 20000 mAh battery for $150.

4. In my post, I had said "THESE ARE NOT FINISHED ITEMS"

as far as I know there is no good (or even useable) tablet OS for the PI !
A tablet OS isn't what the the PI is intended for, and that is education (learning to program, and know how a computer works).
Its not a consumer oriented device, that it is used as such is just a lucky coincidence.
Therefore the raspberry PI foundation is unlikely to put much development effort into such an OS.
That such OS's even exist at all is just because of community efforts.

I completely understand where your thinking is coming from... but you asked what we were thinking of your idea, and these are my thoughts about it.

Thank you for the respected feedback, then. I'm sorry if I was kinda a jerk in explaining myself.
