Case cooling

Sat Jul 07, 2012 9:54 pm

Good Day All - I see a number of great cases for sale with some vendors offering setups for a cooling fan. Does the Pi produce enough heat to warrant a fan? I want to take mine when I travel to tinker with and feel a fan on the outside might get banged up. Thoughts? Thanks!

I think the fact that it sells without one confirms you don't need one.

ive been running all three Pi's i own one running XBMC is the warmest at just over 40DegC the other's running Wheezy doesn't and the Arch doesn't either so dont know what all the fuss is Even Eban upton said its gets a little over body temperature so stop worrying about cooling.

Only of you clock it as high as it will go might you even need to consider a fan.
Personally I'm waiting for some cheap heatsinks to arrive from Taiwan and then I'll give passive cooling a try for overclocking.

With a case and a mild overclock you will have no problems at all. Even at 1GHz most people are not using heatsinks. Buy a case you like and do not worry about it.
