Where to get power supply UK?

Sun Jul 01, 2012 10:35 pm

Just got my raspberry pi through at the weekend, and can't wait to get playing. But I'm unsure what power supply to get, can some recommend me one I'm a bit worried as there are so many on eBay. I don't want to break the pi. :?:

Many thanks.

read the wiki, which lists many working power supplies.
Beware of extremely cheap (two pound) Chinese power supplies, which "lie" about being 5V 1A, ones like this one:

I got one from RS that they recommend for use with the RPi (5V/1200 mA), when they were back in stock last week:

It works OK.

I've looked here, http://elinux.org/RPi_Hardware_Basic_Setup#Power_Supply

But it doesn't give links, well apart from official shop which states is under matience, and it just re.confirms my fear of getting a knockoff.

I'm using one of these surge suppressed by Masterplug with 2 X 1A USB outputs and it seems fine:
http://tinyurl.com/ce6wcd5 - it's £7.99 at present. Was £9.99 last week.
(I got mine for £5 in Sainsbury's just after Christmas when they were selling off stuff).

Cheers,
Peter

I'm using a Masterplug single USB 1.0A PSU purchased at Sainsbury and it works well. Sainsbury have their own brand which looks identical and is slightly cheaper but I've not tried one. A similar Masterplug black coloured one is on Screwfix (Sainsbury sell the white ones).

I have also used my 4 port Belkin powered hub F5U404-BLK which I can use one port to power the Raspberry Pi and I'm using 2 of the other ports for a wireless keyboard & USB memory stick. It's a tiny hub so trying to plug 4 items into it isn't great unless they are slim or you use an extension USB cable - but it's a neat solution to give sufficient power to the Pi and powered USB ports as well using a single 230V plug / supply rather than one supply for the Pi and another for a powered hub.

If you've an iPod / iPad / Kindle power supply these may also work.
