No audio, except in startx with scamp av player

I have set sudo raspi-config to force 3.5mm plug.

I have also tried manualy and it accepts my command. Just no audio under command prompt.
amixer cset numid=3 1

Whilst in startx I use scamp av player, the same file plays fine.
Fresh out of the box today pi b+.

I am trying to run the la.mp3 file downloaded from this site.

I have looked here but cant find anyone saying sound works like this. This is the first time I have used a pi, so I'm sure its me. I am using a hdmi lead, but I want to use headphones.

Any ideas.

Thanks for your reply, I now understand that the outlet may not work with headphones. However I still have the same problem with amplified speaker. I only get sound through scamp av player under startx. Omxplayer in command prompt says volume at 80%, but I here nothing. when it plays the file.

Try putting a
-o local
after omxplayer
