Hi

As I recently explained in another post im doing a project for university that requires me to use a PI b+

Im going to use the Kali Linux OS for my project. I know that the B+ uses micro SD cards for storage unlike the first two models.

So i wanted to ask which makes are the best ones as i know that not all of them will work on the PI for whatever reason ?

Lately I've been using ADATA 16GB Class 10 UCH-1 cards. No issues so far.

Will micro SDHC cards work on the Pi B+ by any chance?

Because the shops these days have more SDHC cards than the regular Micro SD cards

the only one that don't work are fake ones .... IME
class 4 / 6 are probably about the best bang for buck

I was thinking of getting either the Adata class 10 micro SDHC AUSDH16GUICL10-R cards or the Kingston SDC10/16GB cards for my project

The only ones that will cause a struggle are cards that are over 32GB as they need reformatting before you can use them with a Raspberry Pi (of any flavour).

In another thread there was a picture of a microSD to full sized SD adapter. One would plug it into the microSD connector and then put the regular SD car into the connector at the other end of the (short) ribbon cable. So...yeah. It is possible to use a full sized SD card with a B+ or A+. It's just a little weird.

I think the distinction being worried about is that between 'SD' and 'SDHC'. I think I am right in saying that SD only supports cards up to 2Gb, and that SDHC is needed for 4Gb up to some larger value

So to @shingster: YES, microSDHC cards of 4Gb and greater do work on the RPi B+.

Not 100% correct. Prior to SDHC there were a few manufacturers that produced 4Gbyte SD cards. I think they were an unofficial "extension" of the SD spec.

I know they exist because I have one which works fine in an old Dell X50v PDA (WM2003SE) and gives the full nominal 4 Gbyte. SDHC cards do not work in it.

I've never seen another one and I haven't seen them advertised since a long time ago.

Interesting ... confirms my suspicions AIUI (from the suppliers I used at the time) SDHC card readers/writers were introduced into camera's first, with the intention of "rolling out" to computers in ~12 months or so later. Hence my two first 4Gb SDHC cards were supplied with USB-stick style card readers/writers (integral brand). Not so sure about the microSDHC (physical) format though. I think it's "predecessor" was "transflash" (which may have been equivalent to SD) but I don't recall seeing microSD cards only microSDHC (but, then again, I didn't have any need for such and thus wasn't really "loooking" ).

So back on topic

I have now purchased a Kingston class 4 micro SDHC card and a Adata class 10 micro SDHC card for my project

Do i need to do anything to them more besides downloading and installing Kali linux on to them?

Before i insert it into the Pi and boot it

The image is installed to the SD card using Win32diskimager which is a bit for bit copy so nothing needs to be done to the SD card.
Questions about Kali Linux can probably be better answered over on the Kali forums.....
