It's pretty easy to install OpenELEC from Windows. All you need is the Win32DiskImager tool (the same one you'd use to write any other RPi image to SD card) and an OpenELEC image (I have a script that builds 900MB images to fit onto almost any SD card, though you'll need Linux if you want to repartition the card to use all of the available space).

Hi I tried that using the r14452 image and about 25% through it crashed with a write issue .

Got my pi today but not going well !

I have used win32diskimgr to copy an openelec image to a Sd card and 25% through it said write failure. System halted.

Ita a brand new 16gb card

Now I cannot see it at all in windows so cant reformat it or even try to install it. The drive simply will not show in Windows. even under dskmgr it does no exist.

I have tried it in the pi it does get to a boot screen saying openelec but then get
error in mount disks /dev/mccblk0p1.

I then get a cursor on the screen and I can use my wireless keyboard to type on the screen but unsure if it has an actual os working anyway.

i HAVE AN OLD 8 GB CARD. Any ideas of how to get my other card back to give it all another go. I dont really want to blow another card up.

I asume the card is fine just windows cant see it.

I wonder if maybe I try and re-format it in a camera ???

Help !

I only have a windows pc and the pi !

jesus, what a rigmarol.

Win32 diskimager is pretty basic, if you insist on using openelec, you will have to persevere and try again, but you risk ruining another card....(I'd guess your card is recoverable, but that's for another thread!)

The raspbmc install is pretty much automated, all you have to do is select your SD card. If your struggling with win32diskimager, I'd really suggest trying raspbmc as it's just a little more user friendly from the install side of things.

What I mean by that is that there is an official installer for windows, rather than having to use third party imaging tools and images.

Venom28, get a copy of HPUSBDisk.exe
It will give you a "new" sd card :)
