US power supply question

Mon Jun 25, 2012 7:19 pm

From the "Getting started page" it says that any PS rated at 700MA and above at 5V will work, thats great because thats actually pretty common here (both vendors recommended by RPI.org only seem to have UK/EURO PS's?)

Anyway, to anyone who may own a NOOK COLOR as well, can you tell me if this is the same connector as that one?

I have plenty of MINI's hanging around, but a, unsure of the MICROS although I DO have 3 NC power supplies, so if I can use one of those I'd rather not buy if I dont have to.

Ordere my PI a week or so ago, so hopefully it will arve next week.

Thanks

from the NOOK FAQ

1. Can I use a NOOK Simple Touch™ or NOOK 1st Edition™ power adapter and/or USB cable to charge my NOOK Color?

No, a NOOK Simple Touch or NOOK 1st Edition power adapter and USB cable will NOT charge your NOOK Color. NOOK Color has a unique, proprietary Power Kit (Adapter + USB power cord). Only the Power Kit included in the NOOK Color package or a NOOK Color Power Kit sold as an accessory should be used to charge your NOOK Color unit. Do not use any other power adapter or USB cable as this may damage your NOOK Color.

My emphasis.

Sounds unlikely but when you look at Ebay replacements it is a 5V 2A charger with micro USB connector - just what you need for your pi.

Thank for the nook FAQ I know that BNN is just tryinmg to sell a $30 PSU thats why I ignore them, for example my Kodak sportcam charger works GREAT when I need to carry both and only want to carry one charger.

so looks like a wait and see!

anyone know of a verified seller that does sell one for US current?

I dont want to trust a RPi to a euro charger and a 12cts "adapter"

My brother and I both have purchased short usb to microusb cables from UPS, they about a foot long and operate with every charger we have tried.
Iphone chargers 3g 4 5v 1amp
Ipad charger2 5v 2amp
Motorola android phone charger do not know which phone LOL 5v 850ma
all of them worked great with the short cable from ups.
Motorola 1meter cable worked good on I phone Ipad chargers but hung at shutdown with Motorola charger.
Wally world cheapy 2 meter cable ran PI fine but hung at shutdown with all the chargers.
His pi was using a powered USB hub with only the wireless mouse keyboard combo attached directly to the PI (Kb and mouse are a Logitech combo).
It was running the latest Debian image at the time.
The Short cable from UPS cost 5$ plus tax.
If you are more worried about ,spelling, punctuation or grammar you have probably already missed the point so please just move on.
