Confused.
I have just bought my Pi and as I am an Apple fan (please don't swear at me!) I am not used to SD cards.
Please can someone recommend one I can buy in the UK as I have read so many posts and they all recommend different ones.
Thanks in advance, James

A class 4 or 6, card will work fine. All you need to do is avoid fakes.

These are ideal, but they're sold out http://swag.raspberrypi.org/collections ... gb-sd-card

Go into Sainsburys
http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/sol/shop/ev ... -card.html

Or Tesco
http://www.tesco.com/direct/technology- ... 374604.cat

They have them in their Regular and Extra 24hour stores (probably not in Express or Metros).

(Morrisons and AsDa stock them too, in the camera section. But we usually stick to Sainsburys or Tescos for our groceries.)

Hi James277 I normally use 8 Gb cards from Transcend, Sandisk or other big brands. Never had a problem. Plenty on Amazon.

What is the maximum size SD card you can use?

32.0mm x 24.0mm for the model B and 11.0mm x 15.0mm for the b+ (Any capacity is fine =P)

Edited just in time; I was in the process of commenting on the size for B+ ;)

Heh, I've been on the forum long enough to see the error of my ways and quickly make the edit.

I've found 7dayshop is currently doing SanDisK cards (Class 4) fairly cheaply

8GB £3.69 including delivery http://www.7dayshop.com/products/sandis ... B-8192-E11
Other capacities and speeds available. Watch out for delivery costs on some of them.

I bought one to test it and it seems good (actually the price has gone down by £0.38 since I bought it about a week ago).

8 Gb is plenty big enough, and when it dies, it won't break your heart or your wallet.

I WAS refering to the capacity of the SD drive not the physical size!

I know, I was trying to say that the capacity is irrelevant[1]. All cards are supposed to use the same protocol[2]. Just avoid class 10 cards[3] for now.

Pedant proofing the above:
[1] The sd spec has some things to say about what the filesystem should be, but that's irrelevant.
[2] Yes, there are different bus types.
[3] I'm sure many people use class 10 cards without any problems.

I'd never considered going in Wilko's for SDCards. I will have to compare prices.
