7 Inch TFT Touch Screen LCD Monitor For Raspberry Pi

Sun Sep 21, 2014 12:20 pm

I found this:http://www.amazon.de/Touch-Screen-Monit ... B00GZCUNQ8 and thought: "It looks good, has the perfect size etc." Now, can you answer those questions, please?
1.Without touchscreen, do I need to install a driver or even make a new kernel?
2.Does it need an extra power supply?
3.Will it show my mouse?

The display drive has HDMI and a USB. That means is should just work (nothing special needed). The USB is going to appear as a HID and needs a special driver as documented (in English) at: https://s3.amazonaws.com/www.dasgute.co ... pi-en.docx

Thank you.
But I don't know what you meant with your last sentence.

There's a driver needed for the HID device (touchscreen).

Ok, thanks.
So I don't need to do it because I don't want to use the touchscreen anyway.
And what about my mouse? Will the cursor be displayed?

Answering your power question: yes you'll need a 12V PSU (see http://www.amazon.de/Stromversorgung-mi ... B00GZCUNQ8)

And yes, the cursor will be shown if you use a mouse.

Thanks.
Now I know everything I need to know.

EDIT: Is the external power supply only for the touch part or for the display, too? Because I'm not going to use the touch.

Mainly for the HDMI conversion board and the screen.

So I need one even if I don't want to use the touch part?

BTW: if you want to use just one PSU you could split the 12V power and use some kind of voltage regulator (from 12 to 5V) to power the Pi with it.
I'm not an expert with these things but I think it has come up on the forum recently.

12V0 to 5V0 is a fairly common conversion (for running smartphones in cars). You could do a hardware hack on a car cigarette lighter USB adapter to do that.

Sorry, but what is a PSU?
And I think I can use 2 power supplies, one for the Pi and one for the display.

Oh, I still have one question.
Which of thos PSUs should I use :?:
1.http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B0056SV ... d_asin_lnk
2.http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B0071LE ... d_asin_lnk

Robbi Blechdose

P.S.: If both would work, I will choose that with the lower price.

They both have identical specifications. I would be tempted to buy the more expensive one, sometimes the cheap power supplies skip safety standards and safe track separation distances and therefore risk fire or explosion.

I'd go by the orientation of the pins on the mains plug as that can be a pain with socket strips when adapters stick out sideways rather than up/down.

Thank you for your answers.
Now, I hadn't seen your post and have bought the cheaper one. Is that a problem or is that PSU Ok?

Ok, a new question on this subject:
I have this monitor plugged into my Pi via HDMI.
But I have a problem: It shows everything a bit squeezed (direction: top to bottom). How can I fix that?

Take a look at the output from
tvservice -s
tvservice -m CEA
tvservice -m DMT

The first tells you what mode you're running, the second & third tell you what modes the monitor supports.

With a bit of fiddling in /boot/config.txt you can override the selected mode (if it isn't the one you want to run).

Thanks.
But I don't know which mode I should use with this screen to get a normal video output.
Oh, and with which program should I edit that config? Is LeafPad ok?

sudo leafpad /boot/config.txt

Or you could man-up and use vi.
