2.8” USB TFT Touch Display Screen

Sat Sep 20, 2014 6:21 pm

Hello all,
I got a Raspberry Pi Model B a few days ago. Now I want to use it with a rather small screen. That screen should display the desktop ect., so it should work like ... a TV, for example. I found this:http://www.dfrobot.com/index.php?route= ... qbKc5ETznk and thought: "That looks cool. :o But does it work with my Pi? I don't want to spend 45$ on something that I don't actually need :!: "
Can you help me? Does it work with my Pi via USB (described on the bottom of the page)? Do I need an extra power supply?
And I have an USB mouse and keyboard, so my two USB ports are in use. Can I use one of them for an USB hub? Would that work?

The documentation clearly describes it as working with the pi (including pictures of it connected to a pi) so if it doesn't then its a clear case of false advertising.

Yes you can connect a USB hub and plug your mouse and keyboard into that.

The documentation mentions a 200mA load from the screen, you might be pushing the limits of a B to power screen, keyboard, mouse and hub so a powered hub might be a good bet (you could use the hub as the power supply for the pi if reducing the number of wires is desired).

That display will work with a Raspberry Pi. It's using a well defined standard interface with a supported driver.

But don't expect a 320x240 display (compared to a HDMI 1920x1080) to be easy to use. The small portion of the desktop gets about six icons on it (and a segment of the big Raspberry logo). When you open a new window it takes up ALL of the real estate on the screen and you get to see a small segment of the top corner. Open a web browser and head to the http://Google.com home page and you can just fit their GOOGLE logo from there in the WHOLE screen. It's just about possible to watch a YouTube video.

Here's a screen photo before I learned how to rotate the image on my display through 90 degreesImage

Thanks.
So it doesn't scale the screen? It it even possible to, for example, play minecraft?
And one question I forgot to ask: Will my mouse still work (and be shown) or won't it be shown anymore because of the touchscreen?
A few more questions: Do I only need an extra power supply for the touchscreen to work or is it needed to display everthing?
Can I change something in the options to scale the screen to a good size? And I don't want to modify anything, so if an extra power supply is needed, how can I do it? Is it possible to connect the screen so that it displays everthing horizontally, not vertically? Or is there an option for that?

It is possible to scale the screen with fbcp. But the screen then becomes 100% unreadable unless you fill it with a window with massive text.

Ok, thanks.
And how can I turn it? (90 degrees)

You'll have to write to the folks who wrote and maintain the driver (or find an alternative driver that has that support).
The display I've got uses the SPI interface and is fully supported by Notro's fbtft driver.
