Hi

I am struggling to get going.

I have successfully installed and logged into Debian Squeeze but can't get the GUI to run.

Attached is a screen shot of the error messages. As you can see I have tried it in Root too.

The GUI does seem to flash up very briefly. If I type in startx a second time the whole thing just hangs with a black screen.

Any help would be gratefully received !

Thanks

Did you manually configure your xorg setup? Also could you post /var/log/Xorg.0.log as it will provide more details to your error.

after logging in... type

Code: Select all

sudo gdm
That will launch the GUI login manager.

Many thanks for helping me out.

I used RasPiWrite to install from my Mac.

When I type in var/log/Xorg.0.log I get the following error:
-bash: /var/log/Xorg.0.log: permission denied

Sorry, I mean can you copy the contents of that file into the forum? Log in as root and do the following:

Code: Select all

mount /dev/sda1 /mnt
cp /var/log/Xorg.0.log /mnt
umount /mnt
Then plug in the stick into your desktop and post the text here.
