NOOBS OS selection input device

Fri Aug 22, 2014 10:05 am

Hello all,

first and foremost: thanks. As you can see I'm new here, on the forum. I'm using my rPi for a while now, with OpenELEC and Raspbian, installed through NOOBS. Awesome stuff, easy to use and it gets me doing what I want to be doing in as little time as possible. So first and foremost: thanks for that, to the makers and the community that makes all this awesome stuff possible for so little (financially and size-wise)!
Then, to my question. I'm sorry if this has already been asked, but I haven't been able to find it (and I have searched, ofcourse):
is it possible to select the OS in the NOOBS OS selection screen with anything else than keyboard/mouse? For instance, I've always got a MCE remote and a gamepad hooked up, and ideally I would be able to use one of those to select what OS to boot.
Is this possible through simple configuration, or is NOOBS adaptable enough to enable this?

Not too be impolite, but has nobody got a clue for me on this? Adding an input device or remapping something that is already recognized (as both devices have their driver in the default kernel, I suppose) should be possible, right? If somebody has some pointers for me (I'm not unfamiliar with linux, configuring, tinkering or programming, but I'm not really at home on the specifics of NOOBS), that'd be really great...

Since I'm not directly involved with NOOBS development I can't give a "definitive answer" but, AIUI, the NOOBS installer is based upon a minimal Linux system ("Busy-box"-like IIRC) and so is probably not built with the necessary modules/drivers etc. that you would require. More info. may be available (or requested for????) on the github repository site:

Trev.
Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm

At the moment, no.

But as others have already said, feel free to create a new request for it https://github.com/raspberrypi/noobs/issues
(I guess https://github.com/raspberrypi/noobs/issues/128 is along similar lines too)

Let me know if you need any help following https://github.com/raspberrypi/noobs#ho ... uild-noobs
