Keyboard configuration in Debian?

Fri Jun 15, 2012 2:38 pm

I'm using an old hand-me-down Dell keyboard with my RasPi/Debian. The key that's supposed to do backslash (\) and pipe (|) does octothorpe (#) and tilde(~) instead. The pipe is vital for Linux command-line work, like "ps -ef | grep foo".

I tried every Ctrl-Alt-Shift-key combination on the board trying to find the pipe, and I couldn't find it. I must have missed one.

I chose English (US) during the setup procedure, but perhaps the keyboard is set to English (UK)? How do I reconfigure the keyboard config or the key assignments?

sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration && sudo invoke-rc.d keyboard-configuration

Return to “Beginners”
