Software for Raspberry

Tue Aug 05, 2014 7:57 am

Good morning.
I have Raspberry Pi, model A and software (OS Raspbian) for it. I'm going to buy model B.
Can I use software from model A on model B? Or there are differences and I need to change something?
I know that main difference between these models is that model B has RAM 512 MB. Is there something else?

it will work fine [YMMV]
you will probably get a B+
now how you get info from your A you your new B+ and making it work is a bit more complicated

with a significantly new image [and a micro SD card] you will be able to move the SD card from the A to the B+ and it will all work.

but you probably will have to resort to other methods ..

boot the B+ and have a USB to sd card reader them copy the data off the old card ...

The same software will work on both machines.

The only other difference between the A and B is that the B has two USB sockets (via an onboard hub) and Ethernet.

The B uses more power.

Also, buy a B+ if you can instead of a B. It uses less power, has four USB sockets, more GPIO pins and a whole lot of other hardware improvements. The same software will also run on the B+, but you need to make sure you have done an apt-get update/upgrade first. The B+ uses a microSD card instead of a full sized one, and the composite video connector has gone. (Composite video is available on an extra connection on the new audio socket).
