Unplug power?

Not recommended without performing shutdown first.
On desktop computers you also don't just pull off the power cord...

Depends on device... if it is storage device (memory stick, hard disk), then it is not recommended.

You can, but you risk corrupting your SDCard and leaving the RPi so it won't boot.
