Flashing images on a mac.

Fri Jun 08, 2012 5:09 pm

I'm trying to flash my 8Gb Sandisk SDHC card using the built in card reader in my late 2010 Macbook Pro (aluminum unibody) but I'm getting a 'permission denied' error. I've tried both http://exaviorn.com/raspiwrite/ and the build in dd command (dd bs=1m if=img-test.img of=/dev/disk1) in the terminal but both have given me the same error. Additionally, I've tried doing it as root using sudo but thats no different.

Upon closer inspection I noticed that the card is coming up as read only. I've verified that the lock switch is in the off position and I tried toggling it to make sure it was not misprinted.

I suspect that the computer doesn't support SDHC but I didn't think that it was that new of a standard. Has any other Mac user experienced this problem?

It will support SDHC - have you unmounted the drive before dd'ing?

See http://elinux.org/RPi_Easy_SD_Card_Setup -scroll down to the Mac section

Thats actually the guide I initially followed. The card mounts fine and shows the correct size but is just not writable, even as root. When I unmount it, it still gives the same errors.

I'm guessing that the card reader is just for standard SD cards but can read the high capacity cards as well.

I've got the same problem, but with cards I've previously written (early 2011 MacBook Pro). They all appear in diskutil as read-only now and I can't work out how to fix it.
