Project for students

I basically want something to make this easy. I want to have a system that when a person presses a button it brings plays a WAV file on the PI.

The buttons will need to be at different locations around a a large board. I also want it to show that the button has been pressed to light up the LED.

I want to try and avoid using having to buy an ardunio as we already have pi's. I think will need input from 8 buttons, so therefore also 8 outputs to LEDs.

I really like the tinkerboards that come with the arduino as makes it easy for students to hook up sensors. I have seen a few videos of people using breadboards but seems fine for one button but gets confusing with lots of buttons and all have just on breadboard.

8 buttons + 8 LEDs = 16 connections.

There seem to be 17 programmable gpio pins on the 'P1' expansion header on the RPi, so that sounds do-able.

Is there a specific part of your planned project that you or the students need help with?
