For a speaker, I picked up one of these for $5 at a local store. Has an onboard amp powered by a battery charged via microUSB (you can leave it plugged into the Pi to keep it charged.) Note the audio cable is only about 4 inches long, so it has to be right on or next to the Pi. It does not have volume control, so you need to use software to turn it down if necessary.

I've done voice control with my Pi also, and I used a microphone built into the cheapest Webcam that Micro Center had several years ago. Sorry I don't know the make or model, but what I'm saying is that almost any USB mic should work, even if it's integrated with something like a webcam. You can't plug a microphone into the audio jack, as that is output only. Your two options are USB (easiest) and an Analog to Digital Converter (harder.)

Check out the Behring 302USB mixer/DAC. It should do eveything you need.

By "a usb port extender" do you mean a USB hub? (ie. something that will provide you with more USB ports, not something to allow you to use USB over a "long distance")
If so there are a lot of "4-port" hubs available but "you get what you pay for". FWIW, there's a list of what I've "tried and tested" here:

I'd recommend getting one that can be powered (when necessary) similar to the Hama or Targus one's therein.

Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm
