So I am a Pi beginner, and I'm looking to leave it in my living room for various activities(rasplex, retropie, straight up Raspbian) I was wondering if it would be possible, and more importantly SAFE to use one of the USB ports on the front of my PS3 slim to power my pi rev. b. I have a power adapter, but if was looking for a way to start up the pi wirelessly, and only when needed - and thought using it on the PS3 slim (which only powers the USB when on) was a good way to accomplish this. When I want to use we pi, I would power up the PS3 and off I go? Is this safe? Will there be a backfeed issue? What about through a Rock Band unpowered hub on the PS3?

It's not recommended to power the Pi from a computer's USB port, as most of them can't provide the 700 mA of current that the Pi requires.
You may be able to rig something up though. If you connect header pins 5 and 6, the Pi will power on. You can install a button, but you said you wanted to do it wirelessly. Using a transistor instead of a button, you may be able to set up a "switch" that another device can control.
