Sat Mar 08, 2014 6:38 pm

Hey all

I am using raspbian and I know how to change the name of my server

but I must still go to http://192.168.222.142/index.php to go to my homepage of my raspberry

Is it possible to make there something like this http://rap/index.php

Yes, you need to use a port forwarding service, such as no IP (http://www.noip.com). Note: this makes your site public on the web. Then you can have an address like http://www.myname.no-ip.org . To get rid of the no-ip bit, or an alternative, (I.e. just have .com or .org etc ) you need to pay for a domain name.

You can also try Zeroconf/Bonjour or mucking with your DNS
settings. Simply search for "hosts file" via Google. Of course ,
your router might already supply a DNS server , mine
already makes my Pi accessible via
http://raspberrypi.router.name automatically , where
"raspberrypi" is the Pis hostname (i.e. each machine on
my LAN is automatically accessible via hostname.router.name
internally).

sudo apt-get install avahi-daemon

That enables Bonjour (aka mDNS) and you can use http://somenamehere.local (somenamehere) comes from /etc/hostname which can be set with sudo raspi-config.

You can do that by running a DNS on your network or by adding a line to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts on every machine that wants to use tat odd name.

Nice one, mate! I'd forgotten about that.
