Performance issue on rev1

Mon Feb 24, 2014 11:45 am

Hi,

i own a rev1 raspberry (256mb) and i experiencing performance issues:

i like to use my rasp as a media center (xbmc) and as a streaming device for steam (limelight-pi) but i have serious performance issues like lag/slow on the xbmc menù which makes the user experience really frustrating. On my pi i have raspbian and i can see that my pi is much slower than many saw on youtube videos about xbmc on pi. By defauly gpu has only 64mb, increasing will reduce too much the os ram...

I am considering to buy a rev2 model, with 512mb. Do you think there will be a performance upgrade and i will be able to increase my user experience?

Thank you

Sacha

Hi Sacha,

Which 'flavour' of XBMC are you using?

I currently run the latest Raspbmc on an old 256MB model B and experience little if any lag on the menu screens with the standard 128/128 memory split. :)
Pi2B Mini-PC/Media Centre: ARM=1GHz (+3), Core=500MHz, v3d=500MHz, h264=333MHz, RAM=DDR2-1200 (+6/+4/+4+schmoo). Sandisk Ultra HC-I 32GB microSD card on '50=100' OCed slot (42MB/s read) running Raspbian/KODI16, Seagate 3.5" 1.5TB HDD mass storage.
