Error resizing existing FAT partition

Sun Jan 26, 2014 8:41 pm

Hi - first time user here. Just bought a pi for my children, and got as far as formatting the sd card and downloading NOOB files. However, on start up I get an error message,
"Error resizing existing FAT partition", with a message. Going on from that, the screen shows the operating systems, but is showing no memory available, so I cannot install.

SD card is 4gb.

Help!

Peter

Reboot while holding the [SHIFT] key.

Your memory card needs a label, for that pop the SD Card (with card reader) into a Windows machine, access the drive's properties and set a volume label.
Now boot the SD Card into your Pi and NOOBS should be able to resize your fat partition.

Does this procedure work??

Before installing any software please take the card out one last time and pop it into a Windows PC and do the following:
Start, Run, cmd.exe
run chkdsk (drive letter) i.e. if your SD card drive was E: then use:
chkdsk e:

Do you have any error messages about the SD card?? if so could you paste the error message.

There are currently some issues with NOOBS Lite for more information please read: https://github.com/raspberrypi/noobs/issues/174

Many thanks for your help, Richard, Dougie.

I can't seem to access recovery mode...

However, labelling the volume moved me on, and past the FAT error message. Great! But - seems I can't install most of the NOOB os. Disk space is now 2427mb, on a 4gb card. Hmmm.

Ran check disc, and had the following:

Access Denied as you do not have sufficient privileges.
You have to invoke this utility running in elevated mode

Thanks again,

Peter

Take a step back.

Reformat & relabel the card.
Copy NOOBS on again.
Dive into f:\os\
Remove all of the sub folders you don't want to use (OpenELEC, RaspBMC, Arch, Pidora, RISC_OS)

That will free up some space.
