Try this - at the command prompt type:
sudo apt-get install links

When the installation is complete, type:

links www.raspberrypi.org

Enjoy!

as a compromise,
sudo apt-get install chromium-browser
Not as fast as links, but quicker than midori, and very functional.

Chromium browser is faster and more reliable than Midori at the present time (on the Debian build)
On the Arch side Netsurf is faster still. Text browsers are not really feasible for most users . . . :)
