Issue with HDMI switcher and the Pi

Thu Jan 02, 2014 12:43 pm

Hi all,

I'm new to these forums but am hoping that I get get some answers on an issue I'm having.
Due to using a PC monitor with only 1 HDMI input, I have invested in this 5 port HDMI switch from Duronic:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Duronic-HRS1051 ... dmi+switch

Now, this switcher works perfectly with all of my devices (Virgin Media Box, PC etc.) but doesn't seem to work correctly with the Raspberry Pi. I plugged the Pi directly into the monitor to check whether it was booting correctly, and it does.

I don't believe the fault is with the switcher as I have tested all of the ports with multiple devices, but none of the ports seem to work with the Pi?

Any help on this one would be great.
Tom.

Did you plug directly to the monitor before or after you booted the Pi ?

If the Pi cant see a screen on the HDMI plug when it boots it will use the composite output.
Bu you can force the Pi to use the HDMI by editing config.txt ( http://elinux.org/RPiconfig )

For similar reasons I bought a (similar) 3-port switcher some while ago and shown here: http://www.cpmspectrepi.webspace.virgin ... tcher.html
That device would only work with a Pi if another HDMI device (eg. a digital camera) was plugged in or it was provided with external power. Later, due to changes in Raspbian, I also had to enable "hdmi_force_hotplug=1" in config.txt (which is now the default for NOOBS, for example).
Trev.
Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm

I'm going to try forcing the HDMI output. Hopefully that should sort things.
