Since you mention X, I would guess you are using a terminal emulator? It could be lxterminal or xterm or xfce terminal, for example.
When I run mine, there is a menu at the top and if I click on the choices, one of them has a dropdown list that includes Preferences. To change the font size, I click on the preferences dialogue and then look at the tabs to see which one has Font. I cannot walk you through the steps without knowing what terminal you are running because they are each a little different.
On the two of the above that I am running, preferences is in the edit dropdown. In xfce terminal, which is the one I am using at the moment, the Font is listed under Appearance. If I click on font, it gives me option to change the type and size of the font.
lxterminal is similar, but I do not remember the exact tab names.
You also may be able to just select the menus by using the F10 key, and then the up and down and right and left arrow keys to cycle through the possible selections.
