Raspbmc streaming very slowly

Hi All,
Yesterday I received my Raspberry pi and I was so excited that I had to get everything done. I installed Raspbmc on my pi and let it do all the updates. Once it was completed then i started using it and it seemed very fast, and just what I expected it would be or even better.
The drag came when I started adding video add-ons. I added Fox news to test it out. When I click on fox news add-on, then it takes about 15 seconds to take me to the first sub-category of the menus. Then I choose an item and it takes again anywhere between 15-30 seconds before it shows me another sub menu. Once I choose a video to watch, it takes again another 15-30 seconds before it starts playing. My internet is OK with 12 mb down and .8 mb up and works well on other devices at home. Once the videos start playing then everything works as it should (except that when a video ends, it shows as video still playing and countdown going forward with a black screen).
I also changed my resolution down to 720p and put the pi to "super" mode. I removed various servers the pi was hosting but I only might have gained 2-3 seconds.
I attached my external hard-drive to check it out if I still have the same lag, however everything from the external hard drive runs beautifully.
I am using Transcend 16 GB Class 10 sdcard. Is this normal to have about 15 seconds of lag from menu to menu after you hit something? And 15 seconds before you start seeing a video that you are streaming online?
Hopefully this gets reduced to a couple of seconds for the menus somehow and about 5 seconds when starting to load a video. All these videos were between 2-10 mins that I played online. I would like to add more functionality to it but at this point I am not sure if the pi can handle anything besides slow xbmc.
Any thoughts or recommendations?
