Displaying raspberry pi through windows

Wed Dec 04, 2013 12:46 am

Hi,

I don't have a monitor or keyboard so I am trying to access my Rpi through an Ethernet connection with my laptop. My Rpi should have Rasbrian on it (came preloaded).

I have Putty and xming installed on my computer (Asus laptop with Windows 7/Ubuntu) but so far I'm having no luck.

When I try to access through putty I get an error. Also when I run an IP scan I get a huge list of very similar IPs, so maybe is something to do with that?

Maybe I should just give up and buy a monitor?

Any help greatly appreciated, Alex

Hi,
what error is putty giving you?
On the list 'of similair ip address', look for hostname raspberrypi - that should be it.

Make sure "X11 forwarding" is enabled for your login session, to load the desktop run lxsession & and not startx.

Hi,

Thanks for your replies. Where is the list of similar ip's?

I have never booted it with a monitor so I'm not logged into the Pi, is it possible to do this with no monitor at all?

Thanks, Alex

You told us where you got the list from :
Also when I run an IP scan I get a huge list of very similar IPs
We don't know how your network is set up, but are you able to view your broadband route via a webpage?
That should give a list of all devices currently connected to your router. One of those should be the pi, with a hostname of raspberry pi. From that you can get the ip address, and then putty into it.

Yes all lights on. I just need my Pi's ip then I think I should be able to putty in. How can I get this without a monitor?

Thanks, Alex
