raspberry pi openvpn and nas box

last topic: http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 0&p=454902

I want to use the raspberry pi to remotely access my harddrives while in mexico.

It was suggested to use openvpn and samba.

What should I do? How can I access the raspberry pi/openvpn/nas box outside my local network?

I want to be the only one that can access my 3tb mac formatted drives and download the files on them to my my mac.

I don't think creating a new topic will get you where you want.

Some googling around might do.

1. set up samba and make sure it works on your local network
2. set up openvpn and make sure it works on your local network
3. open the openvpn's port on your router (default 1194) and forward it to your pi
4. try to connect to your openvpn from a different internet connection
5. try to access the samba server

if you've done everything right, it should work without any problems.
