Adafruit Pi Plate question

I've got LCDproc running fine after reading some of the great tutorials on this site. However the only thing that I've been wondering is if we can control the backlight color in LCDd? I've tried brightness/contrast controls within LCDd.conf for the hd44780 driver and can't seem to do so. Any ideas or am I barking up the wrong tree?
