Image file too big?

Fri May 18, 2012 12:06 am

The image file I downloaded is too big for my sd card, but I know the data inside the image is smaller than the sd card, is there a way to resize the image to make it fit?

eg http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... f=5&t=5917 8GB image but not much stuff inside?

What image file is 8G? Aren't they all about 2G?
And some folks need to stop being fanboys and see the forest behind the trees.

(One of the best lines I've seen on this board lately)

The OpenELEC image orginally posted is an 8Gb monster.

If the OP read further down the thread he would see that some super hero type has already provided a smaller version.

Hi Nick, I did try your image, but my 4GB card is slightly smaller than your 4GB image, so can't make it work, unfortunately.

Hmm, it was built specifically to be about 250Mb under but I guess 3.75GiB <> 3.75Gb - it's all this pounds, shilling & euro's that I can't get to grip with.

I'll redo it for 1.5GiB later on when I've got work out the way.

Code: Select all

--- OpenELEC.10977.img
Regular file, size 3.776 GiB (4054843392 bytes)
No type and creator code

Partition 1: 125 MiB (131072000 bytes, 256000 sectors from 2048, bootable)

I can tell you how to make it bigger but making it smaller, I guess you could use fdisk/gparted on the image mounted as loopback but I haven't done that yet so I'd be a bit vague on the details.

Making your own instructions can be found here: http://openelec.tv/component/k2/item/24 ... -pi-part-2

Which is how I made mine.
