Can you check if another source displays correctly through same input.
Can you check for adjustment on TV (e.g. Horizontal/vertical hold).

The tv will adjust but it cannot adjust enough. I tried from a cam and seemed OK

You can adjust the position of the display by changing a configuration file

Thank for the link. The offsets worked great in conjunction with a vertical shift on the tv. Next stop is to work on the HDMI but now I know about the config file I have a start. I have got the HDMI to switch on but nothing on the screen. The beginners guide does not make it to clear what you actually type in to the config.

For HDMI, you should leave the config.txt file empty and the RPi will try to negotiate with your monitor.

If you still have no display, you should follow the instructions in http://elinux.org/RPi_config.txt#Which_ ... monitor.3F to find which settings are suitable for your monitor.
