Where to start: Games on RPi

Thu May 17, 2012 12:24 pm

Hi,

I'm new to the forum, and relatively new to linux - but have a RPi in hand and want to get cracking.

I currently work for a major game development studio and we are particularly interested in seeing what we can achieve with the RPi, as a way of getting more kids interested in development. We have a track record of working with very early hardware, so am not scared by the initial development experience (!) but not coming from a linux background there doesn't seem to be a nice clear pathway into the world. We are very keen to contribute to the community by sharing (where possible) what we have learned, and frameworks we develop.

I've been coding in C/C++ and assembler for 15 odd years, but the world of linux is foreign, and tbh fairly indimidating, to me. So, In order to get cracking are there any sample bits of code which will boot up a simple executable and render a triangle on the screen using OpenGL? This would be a super awesome way to get started.

I've scoured the forums, but I haven't found anything yet! Thanks everyone!

Hi

You might find this RPi project useful?

If you're running the Debian image on your Pi - you can find sample code here:

The sample are located in /opt/vc/src/hello_pi directory:

Being a H/W techie, I'm not totally sure ;)
