DHCP Issues

Wed May 16, 2012 10:29 pm

Hi,

Sorry if this is a really obvious answer but I am having issues obtaining an IP from my router.

When the Pi is direct to my main router (Virgin Superhub) I get link and 10M on - Although no IP
Tried ifdown then ifup ....
Image
DG - 192.168.0.1 for the virgin box

When I attach to my second router (DLINK) the Link and 10m flash every 3 secs but the router does not show that it detects anything on the port. My windows PC's all work on this 2nd router via DCHP
DG - 192.168.1.254 for dlink.

any ideas of what stupid thing I have done?

It may seem obvious, but have you checked your power supply?

The Ethernet NIC runs directly from the 5V rail. Therefore it will suffer from low voltage problems before they affect the CPU.

Also, have you tried a different Ethernet cable? The RPI can use a straight or crossover cable.

Have you tried manually setting an IP address and pinging the router?

I had problems this was my solution. (SpeedTouch router)

Deleting the Pi from the list in the router
switching on the Xbox (which is assigned the public IP address)
Then booting the Pi which was then given a standard address from the pool

It seems that unless forced to do otherwise the Pi tries to take the public address with causes my very basic router to have a problem with it (since the public IP belongs to the Xbox). This was compounded by a change of public address since the Xbox was last switched on.

5v really? On the schematic I have I only see 3.3v and 1.8v being used.

Maybe updating the DHCP software may help. Take a look at http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... f=6&t=5607
